Life and music

Dora Pejačević grew up in Našice and studied privately in Zagreb, later taking composition lessons in Dresden and Munich. She began with piano and violin miniatures before broadening her work into chamber and orchestral music. The piano remained central: her G-minor Piano Concerto, Op. 33, dates from 1913. Her musical language grew from Romantic traditions while also exploring new harmonies.

Gondellied, Op. 4, is a compact doorway into her piano writing. Try following the melody while keeping the accompaniment in the background. Explore this miniature as one part of a wider career that also includes larger sonatas and orchestral works.
