PlayPiano

What you need, what is free, and how to reach us.

PlayPiano is a piano practice app for iPhone and iPad.

What you need

An iPhone with iOS 17 or later, or an iPad with iPadOS 17 or later. A USB or Bluetooth MIDI keyboard is optional. The on-screen keys work without one.

Free and Maestro

Free gives you the course, the practice games, the metronome and a selection of pieces in the Music Room. You do not need an account to start.

Maestro is a subscription managed by Apple. It opens the whole Music Room and the practice coach. A new practice plan needs Maestro and Sign in with Apple, and you can make one new plan a day. To cancel, open Settings on your device, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose PlayPiano.

Common questions

  • How do I connect my keyboard? Plug it in over USB (use a USB-C adapter if needed) or pair over Bluetooth MIDI from the keyboard help screen.
  • Can I use my own sheet music? Yes. Import MusicXML (.musicxml, .mxl) or MIDI (.mid) files from the Files app.
  • Which way do I hold my device? On iPhone, the practice screen, lessons, sight reading, the metronome, the score reader, every practice tool but the Ear player, and the games that show a keyboard or a staff (Play it back, Half a minute, Step or skip, Scale run, Mirror and Arpeggio ladder) turn to landscape; everything else stays portrait, Name the note and the other games included. On iPad, everything is landscape except the first run onboarding, which is portrait, and the score reader, which turns any way.
  • Where is my progress stored? Your practice history and your pieces stay on your device. Course progress is kept on our server against your device. Practice plans you made while signed in are kept with your account. See the privacy policy.
  • How do I delete my account? In the app, open Settings and choose Delete my account.
