History
Three-Part Sinfonia No. 10, BWV 796 belongs to Bach's three-part Sinfonias. The earlier teaching notebook for Wilhelm Friedemann was begun in Köthen on 22 January 1720. Bach made a separate fair copy of the collection in 1723, revising its presentation and order. These dates mark stages in the collection's history, not the exact day this individual piece was composed. The collection reached print in 1801, long after Bach's lifetime.

What to listen for
A changing subject
Recognise altered subject material within the connecting passages.
How to practise it
Dotted onset into running notes; delayed inner entry.
- Speak the opening dotted rhythm before connecting the following short notes.
- Count the two silent spans and rehearse the inner entry separately.
How hard is it
A dotted opening figure leads into flowing sixteenth-note sequences while the bass marks a simpler pulse. Later entries shift the active pattern into the inner line, demanding evenness and selective voicing.
