History
Sinfonia No. 13 in A minor, BWV 799 belongs to Bach's three-part Sinfonias. The earlier teaching notebook for Wilhelm Friedemann was begun in Köthen on 22 January 1720. Bach made a separate fair copy of the collection in 1723, revising its presentation and order. These dates mark stages in the collection's history, not the exact day this individual piece was composed. The collection reached print in 1801, long after Bach's lifetime.

How to practise it
Longer outline becoming active; four silent inner spans.
- Rehearse the change of activity without changing the pulse.
- Count the inner silence, then match the entered figure to its own durations.
How hard is it
A relatively plain opening develops into continuous sixteenth-note runs with altered notes, while other voices sustain or answer it. The required balance changes as the texture fills out.
