The short answer
A small dance whose publication date is clearer. Minuet in E-flat major, WoO 82 is a minuet by Ludwig van Beethoven. PlayPiano puts it at Level 4, an estimate.
- minuet
- dancing
Also known as Menuett Op. WoO 82.
History
The publication history of WoO 82 is clearer than its composition history. Robert Forster’s Henle preface records publication in January 1805, while discussing possible earlier origins. That publication month is not a birthday or a creation date. We retain the catalogue’s Minuet title and do not present the preface’s suggested teenage dating as established fact.

What to listen for
A pickup begins a broad chordal song
The minuet melody sounds over low octave steps. Hear its connected shape through the ornaments and rests.
Held notes receive layered replies
The second minuet section layers lower answers beneath upper holds before recalling the opening. Listen through the sustained sound.
The trio exchanges octave responses
Parallel octave gestures and separated replies contrast with the minuet. Hear the rising figures return within the trio.
How to practise it
Shape the upper paired melody over long octave support.
- Practise the paired descent and carry it into the held G.
- Practise the sustained octave and its three-note continuation softly.
How hard is it
Dance phrasing, chord balance and clear articulation require more than basic note reading without concert-level speed.
