History

The Paris Chopin Society places the twelve-study Op. 10 collection between 1829 to 1832 and records its first publication in 1833. A later Richault print, catalogued around 1860, names Franz Liszt as the set's dedicatee. The collection range does not give each study an independent completion year.

What to listen for

  1. The figure changes hands

Follow the opening right-hand figure when it moves to the left, alongside changes of pitch and contour.

How to practise it

Keep the upper run light above sharply spaced support.

  1. Practise the pickup into the first four notes of the full measure, then extend in groups.
  2. Practise the lower attacks and rests first, then add the upper line quietly.
  3. Connect the examined phrase at a comfortable tempo while keeping its stated layers and releases distinct.

How hard is it

Level 9, estimated

Continuous upper sixteenth notes interact with lower octave/chord attacks and intervening rests. Evenness, precise releases and independent coordination are already exposed; sustained fast execution must be checked across the complete study.
