What to listen for

  1. A quiet melody begins with a pickup

The short pickup leads into a sustained quiet melody. Hear its connection to the longer opening line rather than making it a separate accent.

  2. The continuation eases toward a change

The phrase slows as the contrasting region approaches. Follow the easing across the line rather than treating each small response as a fresh start.

  3. A descending transition restores the opening pace

Descending motion leads through an easing passage to Tempo I. Listen for the larger transition without turning the source words into an exact playback ratio.

  4. Decoration gives way to a softer ending

The final phrase softens after the earlier decorated return. Hear the line resolve as its energy subsides.

How to practise it

Fit the opening decoration above a calm broken foundation.

  1. Practise the approach on one pitch, then connect it to the first full measure.
  2. Practise the lower four eighth-note positions as one soft group.
  3. Connect the examined phrase at a comfortable tempo while keeping its stated layers and releases distinct.

How hard is it

Level 7, estimated

Short upper notes connect into longer melodic tones above bass and chord replies. Independent timing, melody balance and control of the small decorative pickup are the observed opening demands; contrasting sections need separate assessment.
