History

The Paris Chopin Society places the twelve-study Op. 25 collection between 1832 to 1836 and records its first publication in 1837. A later Richault print, catalogued around 1860, names Marie de Flavigny d'Agoult as the set's dedicatee. The collection range does not give each study an independent completion year.

What to listen for

  1. The ending climbs in paired notes

Listen for the closing chromatic ascent in sixths after the opening material returns.

How to practise it

Keep the paired-note triplets even and the lower shapes prepared.

  1. Practise one three-pair group slowly, checking that both notes start together.
  2. Practise the lower groups alone, then combine one quarter-note span at a time.
  3. Connect the examined phrase at a comfortable tempo while keeping its stated layers and releases distinct.

How hard is it

Level 9, estimated

The opening maintains moving upper double notes while the lower part shifts between bass arrivals and paired tones. Even voicing of both notes and coordination across changing hand positions create demanding control tasks.
