History
PTNA's account places the beginnings of some Op. 28 preludes around 1836 and reports completion of the collection in Mallorca in 1838. The autograph collection was sent to Paris in January 1839, and publication followed in 1839. This is a history of the set, not evidence that every prelude began on the island.

What to listen for
A high flurry receives a held answer
The pickup launches a descending flourish above detached support. Hear its quick fall connect to the longer response.
A related flurry changes its answer
The next descending group leads to a different reply. Compare the familiar quick contour with that changed ending.
The falling figure shifts again
A third flurry changes the descending shape and answering line. Hear their relationship across the new placement.
A familiar flurry expands its last response
The opening-related figure returns before a longer cross-staff answer and short resting gesture. Follow the musical line through its placement changes.
How to practise it
Distinguish the quick ornament-like groups from the quarter-note pulse
- Keep the mixed subdivisions distinct
- Keep the short support and its rests
How hard is it
Quick descending gestures and their transitions require accurate landings and light coordinated motion.
