What to listen for

  1. Chords turn into answering calls

Compare the chordal, song-like texture with pursuing imitations and the horn-like exchanges described by Todd.

How to practise it

Carry the upper tie while keeping the accompaniment light.

  1. Practise the upper tie into the short run without a second E attack.
  2. Practise each lower attack and its release, then add the sustained melody.
  3. Connect the examined phrase at a comfortable tempo while keeping its stated layers and releases distinct.

How hard is it

Level 7, estimated

Energetic chordal gestures and contrasting lyrical material require reliable coordination, differentiated touch and controlled projection.
