What to listen for
Low singles alternate with fuller replies
At the start, the active track alternates low single attacks with higher chord groups. Hear the low notes as anchors and the fuller sounds as replies.
The delayed entrance adds a new layer
Another track enters later with alternating multi-note groups while the first track continues single pitches. Listen for the added layer without making the earlier pattern disappear.
How to practise it
- Play the opening low attacks alone in their original spacing. Add each higher chord reply between them, then repeat the complete alternation without shortening the low notes to rush toward the chords.
- Practise the later multi-note groups alone, then combine them with the continuing single-pitch layer. Check which attacks coincide and which fall between the single notes.
How hard is it
Restrained expressive writing requires independent melodic shaping, balanced support and coherent pacing through changing harmonic colors.
