What to listen for
A tiny ornament prompts a reply
Hear the repeated short upper notes and their little ornamental neighbour. The compact gesture leads into a longer accented response and then quicker movement.
Low and high notes trade places
The next passage alternates short notes an octave apart, then brings paired-note figures and a longer hold. Hear the changing register before the texture broadens.
How to practise it
Give the appoggiatura-repetition figure a spring while keeping the lower eighths steady.
- Practise D-flat into C slowly, then connect the repeated C figure and compare its later B destination.
- Play the lower F/A-flat/C outline at an even eighth pulse, then add only the upper destination notes.
How hard is it
Rapid dance-like gestures and accented turns require agility, rhythmic control and stamina.
