What to listen for

  1. A lower song with off-beat answers

The lower staff introduces the song while short upper chords answer off the beat. Follow the melody below without letting the higher chords take over.

  2. The song is written again

The next group recalls the opening contour in writing. Hear the familiar shape and preserve the off-beat relationship of melody and chords.

  3. A counterpart appears above

A related melody enters in the upper staff over the lower response. Listen for the change of melodic position while keeping the supporting layers distinct.

How to practise it

Bring out the lower melody without making the upper chord replies heavy.

  1. Sing and play the lower phrase alone, then preserve its shape when combining.
  2. Practise these upper chord groups lightly with accurate silent gaps.

How hard is it

Level 4, estimated

The lower-register tune must sing while upper support stays lighter; shifting melody placement adds a balancing challenge.
