What to listen for

  1. Low accents climb toward a response

Low accented running figures climb into upper chords. Hear the direction of the climb before the heavier answering sound.

  2. A repeated group changes the contour

The first repeated group changes its contour, recalls the opening and expands into another climb. Follow those related changes rather than accenting every running note equally.

  3. A quieter interlocking texture

The next repeated group replaces the accented opening with quieter interlocking figures. Listen for the exchanges between the strands.

  4. The accented opening returns in writing

After the quieter development, the accented opening and continuation return without those repeat blocks. Hear the change of character while keeping the written return and earlier repeats distinct.

How to practise it

Keep the opening neighbor figures even through accents and register changes.

  1. Practise both four-note groups evenly, then add gentle emphasis to their starts.
  2. Practise the paired streams slowly into their eighth-note continuation.

How hard is it

Level 5, estimated

Forceful outer gestures and the contrasting middle require secure coordination, articulation changes and controlled dynamic weight.
