Diabelli combined composition, teaching and publishing. After musical training with Michael Haydn, he moved to Vienna in 1803 and taught piano and guitar. His publishing business became an important outlet for Schubert's music; Beethoven's variations on his waltz brought his name into another corner of piano history.
