Life and music

Dvořák's career grew from Czech musical life into an international one. Brahms recommended his Moravian Duets to the publisher Simrock, helping widen his audience. He later directed the National Conservatory in New York and returned to work at the Prague Conservatory.

Our two entries offer different ways to hear his lyrical writing. Op. 52 No. 2 is a piano Intermezzo; Songs My Mother Taught Me is a Stanford King piano transcription of a song. Keep that version distinction visible: the playable transcription is not Dvořák's original vocal scoring.
