Life and music
Louise Farrenc was a French pianist, composer and influential piano teacher. Her music extends beyond the keyboard to chamber music and symphonies. She taught piano at the Paris Conservatoire from 1842 to 1873 and twice received the Institut's Chartier prize. The breadth of that career matters: a teaching study is only one part of her musical life.
