The short answer
A teaching book grew after its first announcement. School of Velocity, Op. 299 No. 3 is an etude by Carl Czerny. PlayPiano puts it at Level 5, an estimate.
- etude
- Key of C major
- joyful
Also known as Czerny - School Of Velocity - Op. 299 No. 3; Etude in C Major, op. 299, no. 3.
History
The checked 1833 notice lists thirty Op. 299 studies. A later indexed notice in June 1838 explicitly announces ten more. This third study's story is the course's expansion, not an individual composition anecdote.

What to listen for
Broken figures ascend to a high answer
Hear the upper ascent as one larger gesture before its high response.
The ascent returns with changed pitches
Related broken figures change their pitch groups. Recognise the shape through the new colour.
The upper continuation descends in register
Running figures move downward through the later span. Follow their connected direction rather than isolated groups.
A renewed climb ends in chords
Another ascent leads into chordal closing gestures. Hear the movement gather into the final arrival.
How to practise it
Move through rising broken-chord groups without tightening.
- Practise one four-note shape, then connect two neighbouring shapes without an accent at the join.
- Practise the lower entries and releases against a spoken pulse before combining.
- Connect the examined opening at a comfortable tempo only when its separate layers feel settled.
How hard is it
No. 3 is provisionally an intermediate study target, with stable rhythm and relaxed execution prioritized over a fast file playback.
