The short answer
A method could also be a reading companion. Practical Method for Beginners, Op. 599 No. 69 is a piece by Carl Czerny. PlayPiano puts it at Level 4, an estimate.
- exercise
- Key of D major
- joyful
Also known as Czerny Exercise n. 69 from Op. 599.
History
Willard Palmer's preface presents Op. 599 as useful for reading and review alongside another piano method. He explains how Op. 599 and Op. 823 introduce clefs and note values in parallel. That is documented collection-level teaching reception, not a special anecdote about study 69.

What to listen for
Upper figures sit over rising lower notes
Listen to the recurring contour above the lower ascent as two related directions.
The opening returns with a changed close
The familiar shape reappears before a different response completes the first repeat. Compare their phrase endings.
Related contours widen the upper ascent
The second span develops a broader rise above. Hear its direction across the smaller figures.
A higher recall completes the second half
Opening-like material returns higher before the last repeat. Recognise the contour in its changed placement.
How to practise it
Keep the moving lower scale clear beneath the held upper pairs.
- Preserve the upper ties.
- Keep the lower run even at a comfortable pulse.
- Release into the lower rests.
How hard is it
A later beginner-method study needs consistent coordination, even articulation and phrase control; the collection's beginner label does not make every exercise elementary.
