History
Czerny's Op. 821 was first published in 1852 as a set of 160 short keyboard exercises. Its original subtitle presents the eight-measure studies as a way to learn common figures and passages quickly and improve reading at sight. The selected Mutopia files derive from a later 1888 Peters print, not from the first edition.

What to listen for
A tight line curls back
The upper line moves B, C, C sharp and D, reaches E and then curls back through D and C sharp. The lower chord is much more spacious. Listen for the change of direction inside the dense stream.
How to practise it
- Group the opening chromatic climb and return into one phrase, keeping the spaced lower chord attacks from making the short notes heavy.
How hard is it
The upper part sustains a dense short-note stream with chromatic turns above spaced lower chords. Maintaining evenness through the changing neighbour pitches supports an intermediate estimate.
