History
Czerny's Op. 821 was first published in 1852 as a set of 160 short keyboard exercises. Its original subtitle presents the eight-measure studies as a way to learn common figures and passages quickly and improve reading at sight. The selected Mutopia files derive from a later 1888 Peters print, not from the first edition.

What to listen for
A recurring note holds the pattern together
The lower part alternates changing pitches with G, while the upper line moves E, F and G before its brief A and return. Hear the recurring lower note as a thread rather than an accent on every return.
How to practise it
- Keep the lower changing note and recurring G even while the upper melody makes its longer gestures.
How hard is it
An upper melody with occasional very short linking events sits above continuous lower alternation. Coordinating these different rates while maintaining melodic shape supports an intermediate estimate.
