History
Czerny's Op. 821 was first published in 1852 as a set of 160 short keyboard exercises. Its original subtitle presents the eight-measure studies as a way to learn common figures and passages quickly and improve reading at sight. The selected Mutopia files derive from a later 1888 Peters print, not from the first edition.

What to listen for
The busy figure moves below
The lower F/G alternation is now the fast-moving layer. Above it, F/A pairs alternate with single C events. Listen for the contrast between a continuous flutter and the more spaced upper answers.
How to practise it
- Practise the opening lower alternation separately, then add the upper pair and single-note answers without matching their accent to every lower note.
How hard is it
The fine alternating-note motion begins in the lower register against upper pairs, and the upper stream later includes fine three-part subdivisions. Keeping the distinct layers clear supports an upper-intermediate coordination estimate.
