History
Czerny's Op. 821 was first published in 1852 as a set of 160 short keyboard exercises. Its original subtitle presents the eight-measure studies as a way to learn common figures and passages quickly and improve reading at sight. The selected Mutopia files derive from a later 1888 Peters print, not from the first edition.

What to listen for
The chromatic climb is underneath
The lower line climbs F, F sharp, G, G sharp, A and onward, while the upper A/C pair lasts much longer. Hear the rising colour under the held sound before the upper part joins the motion.
How to practise it
- Keep the lower half-step climb even while the upper pair remains sustained; release the upper sound deliberately rather than following every lower attack.
How hard is it
Fine lower chromatic motion supports long upper pairs before the upper line itself becomes more active. Balancing the moving and sustained layers supports an intermediate-to-upper-intermediate estimate.
