What to listen for
A short opening element introduces the contour
Hear the brief entry connect to the recurring upper figure that follows.
Higher contours create a contrast
The first contrast moves into higher shapes and changing pitch groups. Follow its new direction.
A second contrast descends into a response
Related higher gestures lead to a downward answer. Compare its route with the earlier contrast.
The opening returns to form the close
The familiar contour comes back in writing before the last response. Hear its connection without adding a repeat instruction.
How to practise it
Keep the short upper line distinct from its lower answer.
- Connect the opening label.
- Follow each voice's contour.
- Place the small gesture in context.
How hard is it
Dance-inflected phrasing and ornamented gestures require secure coordination, light articulation and clear direction through contrasting phrases.
