What to listen for
The opening repeats short groups and the source later changes from B minor to B major. Compare the sound of the sections without assuming that major must be louder.
How to practise it
- Practise the two-sixteenth pickup as a relaxed preparation, then the eighth-plus-two-sixteenth repeated groups. Keep the shorter repeated attacks light so the next longer note can lead the phrase.
- In the opening phrase, separate the short moving notes from the repeated-note groups when practising slowly. Connect D,C-sharp,B and then E,D,C-sharp without making each change of pitch a heavy accent.
