What to listen for

  1. Dotted motion shapes the first theme

Listen to the main theme’s dotted figure as part of its longer melodic phrase.

  2. Triplets change the second theme

The second theme brings triplet motion. Compare its grouping with the earlier dotted figure.

  3. Octave scales enlarge the motion

Octave scales enter the development. Hear their broader movement after the themes.

  4. The ending becomes reflective

The coda turns toward a reflective close. Listen beyond the development’s larger motion.

How to practise it

Let the melody lead above its broken and held support layers.

  1. Practise the pickup into E, keeping the sixteenth light.
  2. Practise lower eighths against held bass first, then add the other layers selectively.
  3. Connect the examined phrase at a comfortable tempo while keeping its stated layers and releases distinct.

How hard is it

Level 7, estimated

Long lyrical phrases and contrasting passagework require a sustained singing tone and fluent coordination.
