What to listen for

  1. A quiet chordal opening

Paired notes move gently through a dotted rhythm before settling into a longer chord. Keep the sound soft and connected, letting the top line remain clear.

  2. Grow into a held harmony

The chords move through a crescendo into a sustained harmony. Let the phrase gather intensity gradually, then keep the held sound alive without striking it again.

  3. Two lines within one staff

The upper staff divides into two voices. Hear the moving top line and the lower supporting notes separately while keeping them part of one phrase.

  4. Listen beneath the long note

After a small accented figure, the top voice holds A while the voice below moves. Let the sustained melody stay present as the inner line changes.

  5. The opening grows fuller

The quiet opening returns and then expands into fuller chords with a crescendo. Preserve its gentle character while letting the harmony grow.

How to practise it

Hear the top-note line through the quiet opening pairs.

  1. Coordinate paired-note entries.
  2. Keep the top notes clearer than support.
  3. Preserve the longer closing value.

How hard is it

Level 3, estimated

The proposed early two-hand target values a connected phrase, clear chord releases and balance rather than speed. A short piece still requires listening to how its sounds join and end.
