The short answer
Choose a few difficult bars in Play, set a loop, slow the tempo and practise one hand at a time. Use Wait for me while learning notes, then reconnect the passage to the surrounding music.
Find the part that needs you
Instead of starting from the top every time, choose the few bars where your fingers hesitate. A small, clear target makes it easier to notice what changes.
Open your piece in Play for flexible practice. You can use a MIDI keyboard or the on-screen keys. These guided attempts are for learning; they are different from a saved Grade run.
Take one small passage
- Choose your bars. Tap the loop chip and drag across the bars you want, then set the loop.
- Slow the tempo. Pick a speed at which you can understand the movement. The tempo you choose stays with that loop.
- Give one hand a turn. Practise one hand while the app plays the other. Try both together when you’re ready.
- Let the score wait. Wait for me holds the music while you find the right key. Use it to learn the notes rather than to measure a performance.
- Repeat, then reconnect. Play the passage again, then include the bar before it and the bar after it so the joins become familiar.
A clean, comfortable repetition is more useful than racing back to full speed. The adaptive tempo option can raise the speed after a clean pass and step back after a weak one, within your chosen ceiling.
When to use Grade
When you’re ready, play the whole piece in Grade on a connected MIDI keyboard. Grade uses both hands, normal timing and no waiting, with tempo from half to full speed. Finish the run to save it in piece history.
Review the feedback to choose your next practice passage. Only relevant dimensions are graded: dynamics and pedal, for example, depend on the score and the MIDI signals available.
If it still feels hard
- Choose fewer bars or a slower tempo.
- Separate learning the notes from getting them up to speed.
- Check your MIDI connection if correct notes aren’t registering.
- Take a break if practice feels uncomfortable. An app cannot check your posture or replace individual guidance from a teacher.
Progress won’t be identical every day. Aim for one clearer movement, one better join or one passage you understand a little more.
