History
Clementi's six progressive Op. 36 sonatinas first appeared in London in 1797, published by Longman and Broderip. Later printings changed register and some notation. PTNA separately reports a partial revision in 1820 and a conflicting 1799 publication date; these accounts remain distinguished rather than flattened into one version history.

What to listen for
Recognise the return
The opening four-bar upper-line pattern returns here. Compare its character with the first appearance rather than treating it as unrelated new material.
How to practise it
Keep the opening motive clear, then let the running notes flow.
- Speak the quarter pulse, then fit E-C evenly between it.
- Connect the examined opening at a comfortable tempo only when its separate layers feel settled.
How hard is it
The sonatina movement is proposed above short elementary studies because a learner must sustain coordinated phrasing over a complete movement.
