History

The current catalogue places the parent sonata in Salzburg between 1779 and September 1783, and records its first publication in 1784. What to listen for

  1. A pickup introduces the opening song

The pickup leads into the opening melody and its repeat close. Hear the connection across the short first element.

  2. A contrasting colour reaches another repeat

The four-flat region presents contrasting phrases before its repeat close. Compare the new pitch context with the opening song.

  3. The opening melody returns in its earlier colour

The one-flat signature returns with the opening melody. Hear the familiar contour without renumbering the source pickup labels into printed bars.

  4. Broken figures lead to a short final element

Closing broken-note figures settle into the last short source element. Hear the phrase complete across that shorter ending.

How to practise it

Connect the opening gesture while keeping decorations light.

  1. Practise the decorated rhythm slowly on one pitch, then restore the melody.
  2. Connect the examined opening at a comfortable tempo only when its separate layers feel settled.

How hard is it

Level 6, estimated

Cantabile phrasing and expressive contrasts require legato control and subtle accompaniment balance.
