Life and music

Mozart was born into a musical Salzburg family. His father Leopold taught both him and his sister Maria Anna, known as Nannerl. The two children performed across Europe during family journeys. As an adult, Mozart married Constanze Weber in Vienna and wrote for the stage as well as instruments. The Magic Flute was first performed shortly before his death in 1791.

Explore short keyboard pieces and individual sonata movements. Hear a melody as a spoken sentence: where does it ask, answer or pause? A compact minuet, the Rondo alla Turca and a C-minor finale offer different musical tasks. Keep each movement’s place in its parent sonata in mind.
