What to listen for
A pickup connects to the opening phrase
Hear the short encoded entry lead forward into the broken-note-supported phrases.
A descending line reaches the first repeat
The closing figures complete a downward response. Follow its longer direction through the repeat boundary.
The opening returns with a changed answer
The first movement’s contour is recalled in writing. Compare its renewed phrase with the earlier response.
Repeated figures complete the last span
The closing figures recur toward the final repeat. Hear their ending purpose rather than a new independent theme.
How to practise it
Lead the pickup into a clear melody above the regular broken-chord support.
- Connect the pickup to the first phrase.
- Keep the lower pattern supportive.
- Give the longer upper note continuity through the smaller ending notes.
How hard is it
Clear Classical phrasing, even passagework and differentiated melody/accompaniment require reliable coordination beyond first beginner pieces.
